9 - 14 September      Walking Break in Colchester

We are changing the format this year – mainly due to costs; it is not easy to find hotels that provide the type of holiday we have been used to at prices which seem to suit most members.

Colchester: this is a town with a long history; it is thought to be the oldest town in England. The hotel is situated in the middle of the old town with easy access to the shops, restaurants and places of interest. It is a short drive to the coast where there are attractive walks and to the lovely country-side around Flatford Mill, Lavenham or Dedham.

The accommodation: 20 rooms have been reserved at a fixed price in this Premier Inn. The price is for bed and breakfast. Rooms can be for single/double/twin occupancy. There is a difference in price for single and double occupancy because we have a guaranteed price for so many rooms. There is a restaurant in the hotel but it cannot accommodate us altogether for our evening meal so that can be taken outside in one of the many restaurants in the area.

A significant advantage of this accommodation is that those who do not wish to stay for 5 days can stay for 3 or 4 days at the group rate.

Rates: single occupancy £75.99 per day, double occupancy £84.98 per day.  As it is in the town centre, there is a charge for parking £6.00 per day.

Walking: we will need to use our cars to get to the starting point of walks. We hope to offer 2 walks a day – a longer and a shorter one.  We will need walk leaders for this.

The local Ramblers group has weekday walks that we can join; they also publish an extensive library of walks on their web-site which we can also use.
