Arun Adur Group – Annual Report from the Chair – 2024-2025
It’s been another year full of well attended walks and plenty of social events. Group numbers
have remained steady at approximately 400 during the year. Whilst we don’t keep figures, I
conservatively estimate that over 50 members regularly join at least one of our walks every
month, perhaps 80 – 100 at least once a year.
I’m extremely grateful to all our Walk Leaders who continue to volunteer their time in
planning, checking and leading walks for us. At times this has been a little challenging.
Unfortunately, some of our regular Walks Leaders have temporarily been unable to lead
during the year meaning that those who were able to lead have given more of their time to
us. Thank you to them for ensuring that we were still able to provide an almost complete twice a week walk programme.
I’d also like to thank all those who enjoyed walking with us.
In May, Kate Melville- Brown, our Walks Organiser, and I hosted a very well attended Walks Leaders meeting. We were then joined by a member of the Worthing District Community
First Responders who talked about and demonstrated CPR and AED and then allowed us to practice on various life resuscitation dummies. This part of the afternoon was open to all
members of the group.

On the social front I’d like to thank Min Morgan for her hard work in organising various social
events including:
The forthcoming annual Christmas Dinner soon to be enjoyed at Arun View in
Littlehampton, a Quiz night and supper with Mike Charman as Quizmaster, A trip on the
Bluebell Railway, a theatre trip to see Much Ado About Nothing, a summer picnic and games
afternoon, an Archaeological walk, a butterfly walk, a Shuffle board evening. Min has also
regularly suggested events to members who could then make their own arrangements if
interested.
Min will be stepping down from the committee on the 31 st of December 2025 and
nominations for her replacement are sought.
I’d also like to thank Neil Clark for organising the 4-day walking holiday in Weymouth that 35
members of the Group enjoyed.
We always welcome suggestions for social events and talking to members who are thinking
of leading walks.

As ever I’d like to thank my other fellow committee members:
Neil Clark - who will be stepping down as Secretary after the AGM. Thank you for on behalf
of everyone for the work that you have done for the group over a number of years.
Tim Baldwin as Treasurer, Lesley Johnston as Membership Secretary, Gavin Faulkner as
Webmaster and Kate-Melville-Brown as Walks Organiser.

Gavin is also stepping down from the committee and nominations for his replacement are
sought.

I’d also like to thank John Barnes and Karyn Prowen for joining the committee to add thought
and insight into our various deliberations. Karyn will take over from Neil Clark as Secretary,
Thanks also to Babette Berry who sits on the committee and is our link with the Sussex Area
Committee.

Finally, and I will never tire of saying this, without people volunteering their time and skills
The Ramblers would not exist. On behalf of all of us I thank all our Walk Leaders and
Committee Members.
